Joseph Cornell inspired box part 2

I have made a few changes to my box since last time.

I made a desert type landscape for my armadillo

I made my sloth a tree and vine

I made a river and a dam for my beaver.

It still needs some work. I think I need more cables of course. Do you have any suggestions for me? I would love to hear them. In case you missed my previous post I am trying to make a landscape where it looks as if technology has taken over and the animals are learning to adapt to it and making it part of their home now. What do you guys think of the natural wood? Does that add or take away? I would love to hear any suggestions. Please leave a comment.

Analogous Colors

For class we were asked to come dressed in analogous colors. I came dressed in different shades of blue. We were asked to walk around campus and find a color that was next to the colors we were wearing on the color wheel. I found a green room on campus. We took pictures and were then asked to paint our picture. Here is how mine turned out.

I found this painting. I am not sure who the artist is, but they also used similar colors to what I used. Their painting has more detail which makes it more interesting to me.

Drawing a word

As a class we drew words and were supposed to draw something that represented our word. Can you guess what mine is? I went pretty literal with my representation.

warm and cool

acrylic on canvas

This assignment was for a color study. We were supposed to take the same object and paint it once with warm colors i.e. reds, yellows, and oranges and once with cool colors i.e. blues, purples, and greens. I chose to paint an apple. I liked the warm painting more, because it seemed more realistic.

This is Georgia O'Keefe's "Red Canna." She chose all warm colors and it really gives the painting some warmth. It's hard to tell from the painting what the object is without the name. To me it looks a little abstract.

Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Starry Night" is an example of a cool colors painting. There are a few warm colors featured, but for the most part this painting is done with cool colors. It makes the painting feel cold and not very warm and inviting.

cliche magazine collage

This assignment was really fun to me. We had a list of art cliche's to choose from and I chose the Mona Lisa. This assignment was an exercise in matching values of lights and darks. We had to use magazine pictures to match values and not necessarily color. We were also told to change something about it. I actually changed a lot and had a lot of fun with it.

I found an artist named Eileen Downes that makes similar art. Hers is much more detailed than mine. Her blog is: http://eileendownes.blogspot.com/
I really like her art. I think it would be a fun art project to try in the future.

Pop Art.

We were supposed to draw an object that means a lot to us. I had my iPod with me (because it goes everywhere with me) and decided to draw that. We had to draw some sort of grid and be creative in duplicating our image.

I was inspired by how Andy Warhol set up his grid. We were only supposed to do a pencil drawing so I couldn't use color, although that would be a super fun project. I think it would give my project more character.

Shade by number

In class we are learning about value. I drew a black and white simplified sheep. I defined the picture to 5 different shades varying from black to white. I made a sort of shade by number and was instructed to give it to someone else and see how well they did. I gave it to my husband and I think he did a very good job with his shading.
